We’re delighted to announce that SDR has acquired two homes on the Sussex coast, Patcham Nursing Home in Brighton and St George’s Lodge in Worthing, taking our elderly care portfolio from three homes to five. It’s a deliberate step forward for the group, and one that broadens the care we’re able to offer, with Patcham bringing nursing provision into SDR for the first time.
Growing with intent
SDR is building a group of elderly care homes across Sussex and the wider south coast. We believe good care comes down to people first and foremost, and that being part of a group is a way to support those people better, giving each home dedicated expertise, investment and hands-on backing that a single home often can’t manage alone. The two homes complement each other well, with Patcham extending the group into nursing and higher-acuity care, and St George’s Lodge adding a long-established residential home at the heart of its Worthing community.
Patcham Nursing Home: our first nursing provision
Completed in September 2025, Patcham is a significant acquisition for SDR. As our first nursing home it takes the group into clinically-led, higher-acuity care, including specialist dementia, respite and palliative support, broadening the range of needs we can meet as residents’ circumstances change.
At the heart of Patcham is a dedicated nursing team providing warm, attentive care, and supporting them is our first priority.
Set in a barn conversion extended with purpose-built accommodation, Patcham offers 30 en-suite rooms overlooking the Sussex Downs. We’re also investing in the home itself, including a major £250,000 roof repair, now complete, alongside a redecorated ground floor, refurbishment underway across a number of rooms, and new flooring to come, practical, visible work that makes daily life better for residents and staff alike.

St George’s Lodge: a home with real character
Completed in December 2025, St George’s Lodge extends our presence into Worthing. A characterful Victorian home a short walk from the seafront, it’s well established in its local community, with a team who know their residents well and care for them with real warmth.
Alongside supporting the team, we’ve been making improvements residents and staff can feel day to day, from new fixtures and fresh decoration inside and a beautiful, more welcoming garden our residents have been able to enjoy in the summer months.

What being part of SDR means for a home
We take the responsibility of a home’s future seriously from day one. Residents stay in the home they know, with familiar routines protected, and families are kept informed throughout. Rather than arriving with a fixed plan, we take the time to understand each home before building on what’s already there and raising the standard of care.
Supporting the people who care for residents comes first. Being part of SDR gives them the backing of an experienced group, led by our Director of Elderly Care, Alison Worms, alongside investment in the buildings, so that both the people and the places residents rely on are properly looked after. It’s an approach designed to help every home reach its full potential.
In the words of our leadership
Rupert Corney, Chief Executive of SDR, said: “Patcham and St George’s Lodge are both excellent homes, and Patcham in particular is an important milestone for us as our first nursing provision. As we grow, our aim is always to be a genuinely good owner: supporting the people who care for our residents, investing properly in each home, and always keeping the focus on the residents themselves.”
Rob Crossan, Director of Property at SDR, added: “Both homes have real character, and we’re pleased to be investing in them. Looking after the fabric of a building is ultimately about looking after the people who live and work in it, and that’s what guides the work we’re doing at both homes.”
What’s next
With both homes now part of SDR, our focus is firmly on the future: supporting the teams who care for residents every day, continuing to invest in each home, and helping both go from strength to strength as part of the group. It’s the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Patcham and St George’s Lodge, and for the people who call them home.
Patcham Nursing Home and St George’s Lodge join Meadowcroft, Downs House and Stroud House as part of SDR.
